Manual de Cantos Religiosos (Populares)
A curated collection of traditional Spanish Catholic hymns for worship and devotion, faithfully preserved from the pre-Vatican II era.
Unhappy with the music in church?
Wasn’t there a time when the Church created holy music in our own language for us to sing?
In 1955, Pope Pius XII asked that in addition to Gregorian chant in Latin, collections be made of Catholic religious songs in local languages. He called for music in religious styles—not modern dance or street music, but the style of prayer.
These hymns are theologically sound and singable. However, with the changes of Vatican II and the push for new Mass translations, these precious books were largely abandoned in favor of secular styles that failed to endure.
Tragically, in much modern music, lyrics became focused on our own experience rather than teaching and preserving the Faith.
This pre-Vatican II Spanish hymnal is now available once again. It is a solid foundation upon which you can build an authentic parish music program.
Sacred music of the people, singable as the easiest Gregorian chants.
